The Well

Author:
Margaret Boyne

Have you noticed that The Well now has a new look on the outside, and inside a new mural has been designed. Highchairs and changing facilities are available, which it is hoped will encourage mums with toddlers to visit more often. Did you know that The Well actively supports people who are disadvantaged in various ways, offering training and a secure environment to enable all volunteers to develop confidence and to feel a valued member of the team.
Please consider how you could support The Well, and please pray for the staff and volunteers as they continue to work tirelessly to maintain the vision of The Well in Fareham. More about The Well can be found in the article by Margaret Boyne in the Magazine section.

Flower Arranging

We are still looking for more volunteers to take a turn at arranging the flowers for each Sunday. You will not be expected to fund the flowers (unless you choose to do so). To volunteer or for more information please contact Sheila Tavendale or Kathryn Childs.

Fareham Good Neighbours

Very often church congregations hear appeals where they are urged to donate money to help with a particular cause. This appeal is not about money but instead asks you if you can give a small proportion of your time to visit someone in their own home on a regular basis just to provide companionship to them. Most of those visited are elderly or infirm and often are almost housebound and they so appreciate visits from our volunteers. The day and time of the visit would be arranged to suit you.

About half of those we visit live in residential homes, the remainder living in their own homes or in sheltered housing.

The scheme covers the whole of Fareham as far out as Locks Heath, Stubbington and Portchester but we can usually arrange that your contact is local to you if you don’t drive a car.

We are a voluntary body working under the umbrella of Christians Together in Fareham and affiliated to Fareham Community Action/Shop Mobility.

Fareham is not unique in having many people who have few or no local relations to visit them. It’s a fact of modern life that as children leave home they usually go to live elsewhere and their aging parents only see them on occasional visits. This is where we as a Christian Community can make a small difference by befriending people who otherwise can be lonely and isolated. It’s a very rewarding experience too.

If you could do this or would like to know more about the scheme or you know someone who would like a visit by a Fareham Good Neighbours befriender, then visit http://www.farehamgoodneighbours.org.uk/ where you can find the most up to date contact details.

Wessex Synod Day

On Saturday, 21st November, we went with Helena and Miriam to Wessex Synod Day. The theme of the day was Prayer and there were loads of workshops during the morning. There were 40 young people from all over the Synod, which was a record.

Workshops included a Prayer Café, where we discussed what prayer meant to us over a beverage of our choice, Prayer Pods, different stations relating to prayer, and two others. We did a piece of art in the style of Jackson Pollock, which will be auctioned at our summer camp next year.

CHRISTMAS CAROLS AT FRATTON PARK

Monday 21st December 7.00 pm

I just wanted to let you know about an exciting development at Portsmouth
FC. A number of years ago I prayed for the stadium to be full of Christians in the place where people were more used to worshipping football and footballers on a Saturday afternoon.

Increasingly in the past few years God has given us the opportunity to
become part of the club's everyday life rather than being perceived at the
Christian lunatic fringe - that's the favour of God on us! This new

Christmas, a season of good will, the time when we celebrate Christ’s birth in Bethlehem and hear again the message of Isaiah announcing that a child would be born who would be called ‘Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace’.
