Letter from Gill Bailey

Spring is Sprung!

Last Friday, was the first day of spring, the day when we get darkness and light in equal measure. From now on the days will get longer and the nights shorter. ‘Hooray’, I hear you say!

It has been a cold, grey winter, the coldest in thirty years according to statistics, with temperatures going lower than minus twenty degrees in some parts of Britain! Brrr! But now God is awakening the earth, flowers are blooming, birds are nesting and Easter is just around the corner.

Sometimes our lives can feel like a cold, grey winter too. For some the last few months have been a time of personal sadness; for others it has been a time of uncertainty about jobs or mortgages, others have struggled with illness, but through it all our Lord is by our side holding out the light of hope and new blessings to come.

I am reminded of the hymn, the last verse of which says;

‘When our hearts are wintry, grieving or in pain,
Then your touch can call us back to life again.
Fields of our hearts, that dead and bare had been;
Love is come again, like wheat that springs up green’

Soon we shall be remembering the events of Easter and celebrating our Lord’s resurrection from the dead, with the wonderful message of hope that it brings.

Whatever we are going through, be it good times or bad, because of our heavenly Father’s love for us and his promise one day of eternal life with him, we know that things can only get better.

The picture we use to symbolise that new life is the butterfly, which changes from a caterpillar to a dead looking chrysalis, before emerging as the beautiful creature that descends and dances all over our gardens.

Spring is here! Summer is on its way and life always seems easier when the sun shines, so let’s hang on to the hope we have and remember that nothing whatsoever can separate us from the love of our Saviour.
Easter Blessings
