Junior worship and fellowship

Junior Church takes place every Sunday morning and is open to all ages. Young people and children take part in the beginning of morning worship and then join in age-related groups for a variety of activities.

Families with babies and pre-school children are welcome to sit anywhere in the sanctuary, or in the safe area at the back of the church, so that everyone can participate in worship. Soft play bags are available for the very young.

Fun for Under Fives (FfUFs) runs every Monday morning in term-time for pre-school children and accompanying adults. The session includes play, craft activities, story time, songs and a prayer.

Messy Church is normally held on the first Monday of school holidays except Bank Holidays. All ages are welcome, accompanied by an adult. A fun morning, including a variety of craft activities, a short time of worship, and a light lunch.  The next Messy Church event is on Monday, 30th March between 10 am and 12 noon. There is no charge for Messy Church, but to help with catering, please let us know you are coming by text - 0748 472 7777 - before Wednesday, 25th March.

Who we are

Our Mission Priorities

Called to be God's people, transformed by the Gospel, making a difference in today's world

This is the United Reformed Church

In Fareham, this church has been a place where people could meet together in the name of Jesus Christ to worship God, since 1691.

Originally the church was in West Street and moved to the present building in 1994.

The name of the church has changed over the years, beginning as The Meeting Place, becoming the Independent Chapel, then the Congregational Church and in 1972 The United Reformed Church.

The United Reformed Church plays a dynamic and challenging part in the British Christian community

Although one of the smaller mainstream denominations, the United Reformed Church plays a dynamic and challenging part in the British Christian community. It has brought together English Presbyterians, English, Welsh and Scottish Congregationalists, and members of the Churches of Christ, through unions in 1972, 1981 and 2000.

The United Reformed Church combines its commitment to the Reformed tradition with a passionate belief that all God's people should be one.

It seeks to work with Christians of all traditions, and rejoices in being part of more than 400 Local Ecumenical Partnerships. It is also committed to theological and cultural diversity.

It has declared itself a multi-cultural church, rejoicing in the gifts of members from across the world and seeks to hold together a wide variety of theological understandings; the valuing of different insights helps the church understand the wonder of God.

Worldwide, more than 70 million Christians are members of the Reformed family of churches

They uphold the historic Trinitarian creeds of the church universal and find the supreme authority for their lives in the Word of God in the Bible, discerned under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. They order their lives through councils of the church, where ministers and lay people together seek the mind of Christ.

In the UK United Reformed Church is organised into 13 local synods

The church in Fareham is part of the Wessex Synod.

There am I in the Midst, a history of our church published to celebrate the tercentenary, by Madeleine Brand is available and can be purchased by emailing the Church Secretary secretary@farehamurc.org.uk

As an active part of Christians Together in Fareham our church fellowship works and witnesses to the gospel of Jesus Christ with other churches in the town of Fareham.

Our prayers this month

Every week pray for our Church Officers, Elders, all who lead worship, those who provide and show the PowerPoint and work the camera and microphones, those who provide music during times of worship, those who prepare the flowers and those who provide welcome and hospitality.

Prayer for Growth: God of Mission,  who alone brings growth to your church,  send your Holy Spirit to give vision to our planning, wisdom to our actions,  joy to our worship  and power to our witness.  Help our church to grow in numbers  and in spiritual commitment to you  and in service to our local community.  Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

15th – 21st March (15th – Mothering Sunday)

To ponder: Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. (Ephesians 4:2, NIV)

  • Give thanks for those who were there when you needed them and who stood by you when others let you down.
  • Pray for those who show kindness; those who go the extra mile and turn the other cheek; those who have helped others to value themselves and renew their hope in you.
  • Lord, the source of all kindness, fill the earth with your love.

22nd – 28th March

To ponder:  Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. (Romans 12:12, NIV)

  • Give thanks for all who listen, those close to you and organisations who help those in distress.
  • Pray for those who are scared because they are different, and those who feel they can’t escape their mistakes:
  • Lord, thank you that you choose to reveal yourself to us and that you know us, love us, and sustain us.

29th March – 4th April (Holy Week)

To ponder: He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. (Isaiah 53:3, NIV)

  • Give thanks for all that God has done for you through his Son, Jesus Christ; for his death on the cross and that through him you can know that your sins are forgiven and that you are loved and accepted.
  • Pray for yourself and all that you will be facing this week; for the things that make you happy or sad, angry or full of joy.
  • Cross-carrying Jesus, help us to stay with you, to watch and wait and know that you carry us.
